Accepting these terms

Downloading, installing or using Vilo means you accept what is on this page. If you do not, do not install it — and if you have, uninstalling it and deleting its data folder ends the arrangement completely. There is no account to close and no subscription to cancel.

The licence

Vilo is released under the MIT licence. In plain terms: you may use it for anything, including commercially; you may read, modify and redistribute the source; you may build your own version from it. The one condition is that the copyright notice and the licence text travel with any copy you pass on.

The full text is in the repository: LICENSE. Where anything on this page conflicts with it, the licence wins.

Vilo is built on other people's work — Electron, React, the Kokoro and Whisper speech models, and more besides — each under its own licence, which continues to apply to that component.

Using Vilo

You agree to use Vilo lawfully. Specifically, you agree not to:

• use it to access any Google account that is not yours, or that you are not authorised to use;
• use it to circumvent restrictions your school, employer or Google has placed on an account;
• use it to break the terms of any model provider you connect it to, or the law where you live.

You are responsible for the account you sign in with and for anything done through it. Vilo cannot verify who is at the keyboard.

Google and your school

Connecting a Google account is optional, and your use of Google's services stays governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy — not by this page.

If the account belongs to a school or another organisation, that organisation's administrator controls what it may connect to. Some Google Workspace for Education accounts are configured to refuse third-party applications outright. That is their decision to make, Vilo does not attempt to work around it, and you should not use Vilo in a way your institution has told you not to.

AI models and their output

Vilo ships without a model. Whichever one you connect — a hosted provider, a local Ollama install, Apple's on-device model — is a third party under its own terms and pricing, and any cost it charges is between you and them. Vilo takes no payment and no commission.

Model output can be wrong. A model can misread a deadline, mis-summarise an assignment or invent something outright. Vilo is an assistant for keeping track of your week, not a source of truth about it, and it is not a substitute for professional, academic, legal, medical or financial advice. Check anything that matters against Classroom or your calendar before you rely on it.

This is why every action that changes something — writing a calendar event, adding a task, moving a file — is shown to you and waits for your confirmation. That confirmation is yours; what happens after it is your decision.

The folder organiser

Vilo can tidy folders according to rules you write. It always previews first, always lists exactly what it is about to move, and keeps a journal so a run can be undone.

Even so, it moves real files on your real disk. You are responsible for the rules you write and the folders you point them at, and you should have a backup of anything you cannot afford to lose — as you should anyway.

No warranty

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the authors and copyright holders are not liable for any claim, damages or other liability — whether in contract, tort or otherwise — arising from Vilo or from its use. That includes lost work, missed deadlines, incorrect grade calculations, files moved by the organiser, and anything a connected model got wrong.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions of liability. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply as far as that jurisdiction permits, and no further. Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

Availability and updates

Vilo is a spare-time project. There is no service-level commitment, no guaranteed response time, and no undertaking that development will continue. Releases appear when they appear, and updates are downloaded from GitHub.

Because the source is public and MIT licensed, an abandoned Vilo is still a Vilo you can build and keep running yourself. That is the point of the licence.

Names and trademarks

"Vilo", the Vilo mark and the application icon belong to the project's authors. The MIT licence covers the code; it is not permission to publish a modified build under the Vilo name in a way that suggests it is the official one.

Google, Google Classroom, Google Calendar and Google Drive are trademarks of Google LLC. Apple and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Microsoft and Windows are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Vilo is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them, and names are used here only to say what Vilo works with.

Changes

These terms can change. The date at the top changes with them, and every revision is in the site's Git history. Continuing to use Vilo after a change means accepting the new version.
